Organ Volume (Ovarian & Thyroid)
Computes ovarian and thyroid volume (mL) from three ultrasound-measured dimensions using the ellipsoid formula. A clinical (specialist) tool; measurements and interpretation belong to a clinician/sonographer.
This tool is for specialists and only outputs volume (mL) via the ellipsoid formula; it does not compare to age/sex/BSA normal ranges or SDS. Measurements must come from ultrasound and results interpreted by a clinician in context.
Frequently asked questions
How is volume computed?
By the ellipsoid formula: ovary U × W × D × 0.523, thyroid lobe U × W × D × 0.479. Total thyroid volume is the sum of both lobes (isthmus excluded). Measurements come from ultrasound.
Does the result mean it is normal?
No. This tool only outputs volume in mL; it does not compare to normal ranges. Ovarian/thyroid volume varies by age, puberty and body surface area; interpretation belongs to a specialist.
Should I enter mm or cm?
Either; you can switch the unit. The tool converts mm to cm and outputs mL.
